Living Arrows {2018} 17/53

April 23, 2018

Every week I join in with Living Arrows, a blog linky run by Donna at What the Redhead Said. The name Living Arrows comes from a poem by Kahlil Gibran; “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth”, and each Monday I share a photo of M and a bit about what we’ve been up to the previous week.

Last week was hubby’s first week back at work and my first week parenting two under two, solo! It was mostly okay, as we kept ourselves busy with visitors, classes and trips to the park. The sunny weather helped. I think getting out of the house was key as on Friday, we had to wait in for a delivery that didn’t turn up until 3pm. It was hands down the toughest day of the week. B seemed to need feeding/changing/holding constantly and M was a little terror as I wasn’t able to keep her adequately entertained as a result. Unfortunately this week, both of the classes that we attended last week are cancelled, so I’m going to be on the hunt for some different things to attend!

B at five weeks old

Poor B has also had her first cold this week. M had been full of snot for days, but I wasn’t sure if it was a cold or teething as I think her molars are trying to break through again. Unfortunately B started coughing too and sounding decidedly hoarse this weekend, so I got her some saline nasal spray and have been trying to manage it as best we can. Fortunately it seems quite mild, so hopefully it will pass soon!

M at 22 months

I think we’re starting to see a bit of sibling jealousy from M now. She tends to flit between being loving; kissing and cuddling B at every opportunity, and being rather mean, poking and trying to slap her. We’re trying to be firm but understanding. Just another learning curve in the journey of having two under two!

A weekly diary of my daughters' lives aged 22 months and 5 weeks.

  1. Well done on surviving your first week solo! You seemed to do pretty well by the sound of it. Hope all colds clear up soon

  2. Well done on surviving the first week, it takes a while to find a new rhythm doesn’t it! Lovely photos of both of them, M’s outfit is so cute! Hope their both feeling better this week and not so full of cold. x #LivingArrows

  3. Getting out is definitely the key. I remember the sibling jealousy starting when my youngest was a few weeks old. it was a tough phase but I tried to have some alone time with my eldest when my husband was home. It seemed to get better after about 6 weeks or so. we still get it now, although the youngest (almost 2) is now as bad as the big one!

Yes, I’ve been trying to be as calm as possible with the outbursts and give M some one-on-one time. Hopefully it will do the trick! x

At least the jealousy isn’t constant – and there are loving moments in there. You’ll all get through it! I hope B is feeling better now x

Sounds like you’re doing great – the first few months with two was really hard for me, you’re right though, getting out can really help. I hope they both get over their colds quickly. #LivingArrows

We seem to have come out the other side of the colds now! I must admit I do feel a bit like it’s a case of getting through the first few months until B can interact with M a bit more – M is currently trying to hand her a pack of nappies while she’s asleep!
