Living Arrows {2018} 40/53

October 1, 2018

Every week I join in with Living Arrows, a blog linky run by Donna at What the Redhead Said. The name Living Arrows comes from a poem by Kahlil Gibran; “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth”, and each Monday I share a photo of M, and one of B, and a bit about what we’ve been up to the previous week.

Last week was another birthday-centred week, as it was my birthday on Wednesday. I had a really lovely day, actually, as we tried out a new toddler cookery class in the morning, then popped into Norwich for a bit of shopping, before heading home to be visited by my parents and mother in law. Then in the evening we had some friends round for a takeaway. A very busy, but lovely day!

Then at the weekend my very lovely university pal came to stay. It was so good to see her. It was the first time she had met B, and the first time she had seen M in more than a year. I keep saying that time seems to be passing more quickly since having children, but it really does hit home when I think about the amount of time that has passed between seeing some of my friends. I think it’s so easy to be consumed by the day today business of looking after two small children. I need to take more time to cultivate my friendships and carve out some time for myself.

On Saturday, we all went off to the beach for a fish and chip dinner, which was great. Mainly because we still haven’t replaced our broken dishwasher, so it meant we didn’t need to do any washing up! I’m only joking a little bit. M loves the beach, and as soon as we’d finished eating, she went tearing across the sand with Matthew to check out the sea. I took this week’s photograph of her when she was coming back to me after her run.

B’s photograph was taken on Saturday morning, when she was having a roll around on the floor with her little bunny rattle. B has really made progress this week with her rolling, and has started to realise that she can roll to get to things that she wants. I was trying to get her to crawl to her bunny, but I don’t think she’s quite ready for that yet!

Last Thursday, we went to the hospital to have B’s hips x-rayed and to meet with the orthopaedic surgeon to check on the progress of B’s hips, since she’s been out of her Pavlik harness. Fortunately, her hips seem to be progressing well. We’ve been given another appointment to go back for another x-ray and meeting in six months’ time. Hopefully the good progress will continue!

We haven’t really got many plans this coming week, but I’m sure I’ll find something to keep us busy!

A weekly photo diary of my daughters' lives, at six months and two years old. This week, M goes running in the sand, and B masters the art of rolling to get what she wants!
