Living Arrows {2018} 44/53

October 29, 2018

Every week I join in with Living Arrows, a blog linky run by Donna at What the Redhead Said. The name Living Arrows comes from a poem by Kahlil Gibran; “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth”, and each Monday I share a photo of M, and one of B, and a bit about what we’ve been up to the previous week.

Last week was half term, and after a lovely weekend at Center Parcs (so lovely, in fact, that we’ve already booked to go again next April!) we settled into a slower week at home. It’s been really nice just having some time to chill out together, without having to rush from one place to another.

M has chosen this week to drop her nap almost entirely, which has been interesting, to say the least! Of course by the time it gets to bedtime, she’s absolutely shattered. But it was definitely time for her to drop her daytime nap. It had been getting increasingly later in the day, she was sleeping for a couple of hours, and then of course wasn’t ready to go to sleep at bedtime, so was spending a good hour or so chatting to herself in her cot before finally drifting off to sleep.

At the moment, she’s struggling a little with tiredness during the day as she adjusts to life without a nap, which is resulting in some pretty impressive (and completely nonsensical) toddler tantrums. Fortunately she’s not quite at the lying-on-her-tummy-pummelling-the-ground stage, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened at some point!

This week’s photographs of both girls were taken on Wednesday, when we spent lunchtime at the beach.

Great Yarmouth is our current beach of choice, as that’s where the best gluten free fish and chips are! We were so lucky with the weather that day; it was glorious. We arrived late morning and M got stuck into some sandcastle building. We had the obligatory fish and chips, then enjoyed sitting together and watching another family flying a beautiful kite in the sunshine. Eventually the sky clouded over so we headed home.

B’s photograph isn’t the most amazing in terms of capture, but I’ve chosen it this week as it shows her sitting up by herself. She’s getting better and better at this every day – although in the next frame I took, she’d face planted the picnic blanket, so perhaps she hasn’t quite mastered it yet!

Matthew is back to work this week so we’ll be back to normality. Now that M has dropped her naps, I really need to work on getting B into some kind of routine, in the hope that it will help her nighttime sleep. Before I can do that, though, I need to sort out her nursery, which seems to have turned into a bit of a storage space again. We shall see how that goes!

A weekly photo diary of my daughters' lives, at seven months and two and a half. This week, it's half term, so we've been to the beach.

Oh such lovely beach snaps, it may be cold outside but at least the sun has still been shining! Try not to worry about forcing a routine, it will just come with time x

It’s been rather wet here for the past couple of days. I really must make more effort to get us all out of the house, but it’s just such a faff when it’s raining! x

Looks like a lovely day for a trip to the beach. When did B get so big?? That stage of dropping the nap can be tricky but I actually found life much easier once we didn’t have to work round a nap schedule any more. Unfortunately for us Toby stopped napping just before Gabe was born so I never really got them napping at the same time! #LivingArrows

Yes you’re right, I’m definitely finding going out easier now that we haven’t got to rush back for a nap. Unfortunately she’s pretty difficult by around 4pm at the moment, as she’s so tired. Hopefully she’ll adapt soon!

The weather we’re having is just so lovely – I don’t think I have seen such beautiful beach photos in November before! Your Center Parcs trip has inspired me to try and book one for us too! x
