Living Arrows {2018} 52/53

December 24, 2018

Every week I join in with Living Arrows, a blog linky run by Donna at What the Redhead Said. The name Living Arrows comes from a poem by Kahlil Gibran; “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth”, and each Monday I share a photo of M, and one of B, and a bit about what we’ve been up to the previous week.

Last week was a busy one for us, as we had both my dad’s and Matthew’s mum’s birthdays to celebrate. M loved the opportunity to eat out and share gifts to celebrate, and of course got busy making cards.

I do think that having two birthdays the week before Christmas had possibly got her a bit confused, though, as we had an interesting conversation where we had to clear up the fact that Father Christmas doesn’t bring anyone birthday presents!

It’s been lovely seeing how excited M is about Christmas. I’m so looking forward to having lots of fun with her tomorrow! She’s been pointing things out and referencing Christmas Day left, right and centre, so we’ve been doing some nice little Christmassy activities, like going for walks in the dark to see the Christmas lights on houses.

I set up this quick Christmas tree tuff spot for M midweek, and she was bouncing all over the place waiting for me to finish it so that she could play. I love how such simple things make her so happy. Of course, she insisted on wearing her Christmas jumper to enjoy it. She’s barely taken that jumper off all week!

As for B, she has been her happy, jolly self as usual. Sleeping in her own room has been a bit of a mixed success over the past week and she’s ended up in our bed for a few nights this week. Now that Matthew is on holiday, he’s been getting up with her during the night to settle her back to sleep to try to stop her from asking for night feeds, and so far, it’s been working. She’s still not sleeping through, but we’re hoping that once she gets more used to not needing a feed during the night, she’ll find it easier to settle herself and will sleep for longer stretches. Fingers crossed that happens!

B’s photo was taken while she was chilling out with Matthew on the kitchen sofa. I was siting at the dining table and just happened to have my camera in front of me, so I picked it up and took this snap. I love how natural it is and it captures one of her favourite things – being held by one parent, while she smiles at the other!

I can’t believe we’re already on the eve of celebrating B’s first Christmas. This year has gone so quickly. I remember when I was pregnant with B, someone told me that by Christmas, I’d be completely in my stride as a parent of two and ready to give advice to anyone preparing for their second baby. And do you know? They were right. We’ve really found our groove as a family of four, and I’m so excited to be celebrating our first Christmas with our completed family.

From our little family to yours, Merry Christmas xx

About thirty seconds, just as it should! M enjoyed swirling all of the colours together. I hope you’ve had a lovely Christmas, too x

Thank you. I don’t feel very creative – often I get complete mind blanks as to what I can do with M, but then sometimes I see something that sparks an idea and just run with it. M seems to enjoy it anyway, and that’s the main thing! Happy New Year x
