Every week I join in with Living Arrows, a blog linky run by Donna at What the Redhead Said. The name Living Arrows comes from a poem by Kahlil Gibran; “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth”, and each Monday I share a photo of M, and one of B, and a bit about what we’ve been up to the previous week.
Last Friday was B’s first birthday, so the past week has pretty much revolved around that. We had a little gathering for her birthday on Saturday, which obviously required cake, and I couldn’t allow B’s actual birthday to pass without birthday cake, so I made two. It’s really important to me that I make the girls’ birthday cakes. I’m not skilled enough to do anything extravagant, but I’m still proud of what I’ve managed to achieve. It tasted good, too, which is the main thing!
M was pretty good at understanding that it was B’s birthday. She was too impatient to wait for B to work out how to open her presents, though, so there was quite a bit of ‘helping’ going on!
I can’t quite believe that we’ve come to the end of B’s pack of milestone cards. As with M, I’ve managed to get a photo of B every month (B has actually been far more compliant than M was!). But each month, M has wanted to get in on the action and again this month, she insisted on having a photograph with B’s milestone card. Of course it’s not really her first birthday, but I still love her expression in this photograph! She knew exactly how cheeky she was being!
This week, we’ve got a few plans, but I still think it’s going to feel like a slow week after the last one. I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing, though!
I think the cake looked lovely and you should be very proud!
Thank you, you’re too kind!
Oh I hope she had a great birthday! I can’t quite believe she’s one now! x #LivingArrows
Thank you. Nor can I. A two year old and a one year old. That sounds like hard work, doesn’t it?! x
Ahh Happy Birthday to B – I love that you make the cakes – it looks great! #LivingArrows
Thank you, I was really pleased with how it turned out.
Sounds like you have had a lovely week. Happy Birthday to B. Do love a home made cake although Olivia has requested a princess castle cake this year and I’m not sure my skills are that good. I’m thinking I may just make some princess fairy cakes for her friends to take home.
Oh gosh yes, a princess castle cake would be way out of my expertise, too! Fairy cakes sound like a good option for something homemade.
Oh Happy Birthday B! That year has flown by and it’s been so, so lovely to watch her grow x
Aw thank you. I’ve loved it too! I feel like both girls have suddenly grown up lots since Christmas. They’re getting so big; I don’t feel I can really call B a baby anymore!
What lovely captures and great that the personality comes through #LivingArrows
Thank you, that’s such a compliment!
Aww such a special milestone. The cake looks amazing! I am very impressed I always cheat. Those milestone cards are lovely and something for you to look back on. Hope last week was a little bit more relaxing.
Thank you. I might resort to cheating if the girls start demanding anything more extravagant!
