Living Arrows 36/52

September 4, 2017

I’m totally behind with writing this week’s Living Arrows, mainly because we’ve been trying to spend as much time as possible as a family before hubby returns to work this week. We’ve had family barbecues, days out at the beach and time spent at the park and in the garden. Unfortunately Little M and I have also had to spend a couple of days by ourselves this past week as the reality of working in a school means that hubby has had to go into work during the holidays, to make sure that he’s prepared for the new term. I must admit, today has felt a lot longer with him at work, but I think the fact that Little M only napped for one hour might have something to do with that!

I’ve been trying to be a ‘better’ parent and come up with some activities for Little M to do, to aid her development. Being a teacher, I should be good at this, but to be honest my focus was more the junior age range than EYFS. I know the theory, of course, but it doesn’t come as naturally as you might think!

Anyway, Little M absolutely loves Hooray for Fish! by Lucy Cousins. I often have to read it three times in a row. I don’t mind though, as she usually gives me a kiss at the end (I won’t spoil it for you by telling you the ending, but it’s lovely!). The illustrations in the book are just fabulous, so I thought I’d whip up a little homemade colouring sheet for Little M, based on one of the pages. I taped it to the tiles on the kitchen floor, gave her some washable wax crayons, and away she went!

I love this photo because it shows her getting stuck in – she’s becoming so grown up, I’ll be doing ‘proper’ arts and crafts with her in no time! Wish me luck!

Oh wow! That colouring sheet is awesome – great work! I’m trying to be a better parent this year – working just when the kids aren’t around and focusing on them properly when they’re home x

Thank you – I am proud of it! It’s wonderful that you’re now able to do your blog work while the children are at school – I’ve got a few more years before that happens! x

I’ve never heard of that book – I’ll have to look it up. I’m a bit rubbish at doing activities with Toby and Gabe – but then I always think they get plenty of that at nursery! #LivingArrows
