Modibodi Period Pants Review {AD – gifted}

June 26, 2019

When Modibodi got in touch asking me if I’d like to try out their period pants, I was really excited. I’d heard about the brand previously, and had already checked out their website, impressed by how ‘normal’ their underwear looked. Since they’ve sent them, I’ve been able to enjoy (if ‘enjoy’ is the right word!) my first no-waste period, by using a combination of my menstrual cup and period pants. Here’s my review of Modibodi’s period pants.

Modibodi Period Pants

Modibodi kindly sent me two pairs of their period pants; an overnight absorbency classic bikini brief (RRP £21.50), and a light-moderate absorbency classic bikini brief (RRP £18). My first thought was that they are pretty colours and pretty ‘normal’ looking, if a little bulkier in the gusset area than normal knickers, although that is to be expected as they need to be a lot more absorbent.

Modibodi’s period pants are very comfortable and did an excellent job at containing everything that they needed to contain! I was nervous about wearing them all night, particularly during the heaviest part of my cycle, but the overnight absorbency briefs hold 15-20ml of blood, which is equivalent to two tampons. I used my menstrual cup during the day, so I only wore my Modibodi knickers overnight.

The light-moderate absorbency knickers are perfect for lighter flow days (or in my case, nights), or as a reassuring back up for heavy flow days if you’re using a menstrual cup during the day, like me. I haven’t experienced any leakage with my cup, but if you do, then these pants would be ideal for those moments when you get caught out.

To wash them, I simply rinsed them in cold water until the water ran clear, then threw them in the washing machine. The washing instructions are to wash on a cool, delicates wash, but I accidentally sent them through a pretty standard 40ºC cycle and they seem to have come out the other side unscathed!

When I initially thought about trying period pants, it was with sustainability in mind. I didn’t like the idea of having to wash them out, but I felt I needed to ‘take one for the team’, as it were, in the name of environmental responsibility. In fact, the reality has been very different. Yes, I do need to wash out the pants, but it’s not as disgusting as I thought it was going to be. Nowhere near. And actually, the positives of these pants seriously outweigh the negatives.

I found my Modibodi period pants to be as absorbent as disposable sanitary towels (if not more so), but also, SO much more comfortable. Wearing my period pants was just like wearing an ordinary pair of pants. I was surprised by how ‘normal’ they were. I found the Modibodi bikini briefs comfortable and (gasp!) attractive, but Modibodi also do a variety of different styles, including their lacy ‘sensual’ range, boy shorts and even a thong. So there’s something available to suit everyone, for the different stages of your period.

I’m so pleased that I’ve had the opportunity to try using period pants, and I’ll definitely be purchasing some more so that I can be a little more relaxed about how quickly they wash and dry. I’m looking forward to my periods being a lot more sustainable from now on!

Have you tried period pants? Or do you have any questions about them? Feel free to ask in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer.
