Now I’m not sharing this news to show off, or sound smug (although up to now I’ve always thought others have been smugly showing off about this), but more as a message of hope to those of you who have, like me, spent weeks wondering when on earth your baby is going to sleep for more than a few hours at a time.
On Friday night, at just under ten weeks old, Little M slept through the night fr the first time. Not the five hours in a row that is considered through the night for a newborn; she’s done that sporadically a couple of times. No, I’m talking actual proper through the night, starting before midnight and ending after 5am. Ten thirty pm until five thirty am, to be precise.
Of course, when we woke up and realised what on earth the time was, the first thing we did was worry. Is this normal? Is she ill? Should we try to keep her awake? Hubby frantically Googled while I just rejoiced at having had more than three hours sleep in a row (something that hadn’t happened for several weeks).
Then, on Saturday night, she only went and did it again! Not quite as long, 11:30pm – 6am, but even still, it was fabulous. Although bizarrely I feel even more tired than I did before. How can that be?
It’s funny, isn’t it, how you worry regardless of whatever it is babies are doing? When Little M wasn’t sleeping much, we fretted over it as NCT friends proclaimed that their babies slept from 7:30pm until 8am. Then as soon as she gives us an uninterrupted nights’ sleep we thing there’s something wrong! I know, we shouldn’t compare. I’m just grateful to know that she’s capable of it, and if we cross our fingers really tight, she might actually do it again.
Just in time to make us feel really secure before hitting the four-month sleep regression.
Isn’t it a great feeling that first time you get more than 3 hours sleep in a row! Here’s hoping the 4 month sleep regression goes easy on you! #MarvMondays
Thank you! I think we’ll just have to take it as it comes!
amazing feeling- I remember it well and you start to feel just that little bit more human again every time and a really cute picture as well!! Thank you for posting #Marv Mondays
I hope it continues for you. My son started at 6 weeks and it was pure heaven. While it lasted. #MarvMondays
It hasn’t, but at least we know it’s happened before so it can happen again!
Oh well done 🙂 I can’t wait for my Freddie to have his first full night sleep.

Oh I so get where you are coming from and each baby seems to have it’s own sense of whats normal for them right? #MarvMondays
Its so amazing when that happens. But the first thing you do, is worry if something is wrong with them! We did exactly the same thing before realising what was happening. Fingers crossed it happens quite a bit more and the regression never arrives, or if it does that its short lived! Always love reading your updates, thanks for sharing this on #MarvMondays. Emily
Thanks Emily! It hasn’t continued, sadly, but I have faith that if it’s happened once, it can happen again! x
