The 20 week scan

January 20, 2016

I thought I’d just write a quick check in post as we had our 20 week scan today.

Unfortunately, yet again, we were at the hospital for hours. But the good news is, everything looks fine with the baby which is the not important thing!

We first went in for the scan to reveal a very curled up baby! The sonographer asked me to go for a walk and have a sugary drink as my bladder wasn’t very full and she thought the sugar might get the baby moving. So off we went on a route march to the canteen to fetch some sugary drink which I downed on the route march back!

Back to the scan room and sure enough, the baby had moved…and curled up in a different direction! So I had to lie on my side, empty my bladder (yep the one I’d just filled) and even jump up and down! Baby did move…but stayed curled up!

The sonographer commented that the baby is very stubborn! Wonder where they got that from…

Anyway fortunately the sonographer was able to see everything she needed to see in the end and it all looked good.

The wait was to see the consultant regarding the pregnancy and its impact on my kidneys. At the moment everything looks fine but I’ll be having more scans at 28, 32 and 36 weeks.

We asked to find out the gender too, but that’s for another post…!

  1. Ahh, congratulations on a healthy 20 week scan! Mine was only a couple of weeks ago and involved me having to run up and down the stairs a few times to get baby to wiggle off their back. That didn’t work so had to go and empty my bladder too (which was full to bursting so I was pretty happy about that!).

Hope the consultant was able to put your mind at rest about other medical issues, but on the upside at least you have a few more scans to get a glimpse at baby!

Haha it’s funny the lengths we go to isn’t it?! Yes I’m certainly looking forward to a few more photo opportunities!! x

Glad all is going well so far. I know what a stubborn baby is like. My LG was sat cross legged in a breech position refusing to move. She did eventually 🙂

Thank you. Yep I am pretty stubborn so it must be where she gets it from! More scans coming up so at least we get to have another look!

  3. eeek, so exciting! Can’t wait to hear your gender reveal. So pleased to hear that everything looks ok with your kidneys etc, that must be a nice relief. Sounds like everything is progressing tickety boo 🙂 Emily x

  4. Glad everything went well with the scan, even if the baby was being cheeky! My little boy was always awkward when it came to scans but this one was in a perfect position at the 12 week scan- the sonographer said it was the best 12 week scan she’d done in years, haha!

Excited for your gender reveal, don’t keep us in suspense too long!

Glad everything went well with your scan – I found the 20 week one quite nerve wracking. My little guy was awkward too – we were there ages!
